High-Quality Natural Fertilizer
Alpha Green Milling Co. Nutrient Fertilizer is Proudly Canadian, Approved by EcoCert Canada
Welcome to Alpha Green Milling Co., a division of Western Alfalfa Milling Co. Ltd. and the proud producers of the Nutrient line of fertilizers.
Under our former name, Alfalfa Green, our popular alfalfa pellets are well-known organic fertilizers with extensive benefits for plant and soil health.
Alpha Green Milling Co.’s Nutrient fertilizer line complies with the Canadian Certified Organic Crop Production standards and is certified through EcoCert Canada as approved inputs for organic agriculture. Simply, our fertilizers provide nutrients vital to plant health and improve soils by adding organic matter along with over 30 macro and micro minerals, nutrients, and amino acids. When you choose Alpha Green Milling Co. Nutrient fertilizers, you are feeding your plants and improving the biology in your soil.
Our line of fertilizers works to improve your soil structure through the addition of plant fibres, which provide a food source for soil microbes. This boost in microbial activity results in improved soil aeration and drainage, while soil moisture evaporation and compaction are reduced. Alpha Green Milling Co. Nutrient fertilizers absorb up to three times their weight in water and hold onto it until the surrounding soil dries. This contributes to both drought resistance and flood control of your soils.
Pure Natural, Plant-Based Fertilizer
Alpha Green Milling Co.’s Nutrient Pure product is a plant-based soil amendment, conditioner, and fertilizer that adds over 30 micronutrients and macronutrients to your soil. Unlike many synthetic fertilizers, Nutrient Pure fertilizer builds a healthy root system by improving soil structure with more than just nitrogen, phosphate, and potassium (N-P-K). The Nutrient Pure fertilizers are rich in plant fibres and supply other micro minerals, such as calcium, selenium, magnesium, boron, and more for strong, healthy greenery. See our full nutrient analysis here.
Alpha Green Milling Co. Nutrient Pure fertilizer is also a treatment for acidic and/or basic soils. With a neutral pH of 6.0 to 6.2, our fertilizer neutralizes acidity and buffers alkalinity, creating a favourable environment for soil microorganisms and plant root expansion resulting in healthy, sustainable, living soil.
Nutrient Pure fertilizer is so versatile that it can replace other lawn and garden products such as conventional fertilizers, peat moss, manure, or compost.

Why We Are Different
Queen of Forages
Sometimes referred to as the “Queen of Forages”, alfalfa has played a key role in the development of North America. Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) was originally discovered near Iran around 2000 B.C. The value of utilizing alfalfa for livestock feed has since been traced back in records as far back as 490 B.C. in Rome. From there, the hardy and high-quality legume made its way to Spain and quickly spread throughout Europe. Alfalfa was brought to North America in the early 1700s by European settlers and has continued to prove itself invaluable as one of our staple forage crops across the continent.
Alpha Green Milling Co. Nutrient fertilizers are approved for organic input by EcoCert Canada, accredited by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and present in all Canadian provinces. Through rigorous inspection criteria and monitoring, this certification assures our customers that Alpha Green Milling Co. Nutrient fertilizers are always top quality, grown and processed under strict criteria and guidelines, absolutely free from any chemicals or GMO ingredients.
Dehydrated alfalfa pellets are produced from local alfalfa plants. The only additives for the growing alfalfa plants are natural rainfall and bountiful sunshine. Our alfalfa is grown and harvested in Saskatchewan, Canada, blessed with a wholesome climate and an abundance of land suitable for the production of high-quality forage. Alfalfa is cut at the late-bud to early-flowering stage ensuring a high-quality product. Harvesting techniques ensure maximum retention of nutritious leaf material from the field to the mill. The flash-heat process utilized to dehydrate the plant material locks in and preserves the available nutrients while eliminating any weed-seed viability in the end-processed alfalfa pellet.
Alfalfa is part of the legume (Fabaceae sp.) family, which means that alfalfa plants bear their seeds in pods. They are labelled as the “nitrogen fixers”, so unlike cereals and other non-legume crops, they have nodules on their roots that harbour beneficial bacteria. These bacteria take atmospheric nitrogen (N2) and convert it to a form that is available for plant uptake (NH4+ or NO3-). This symbiotic relationship is completed when the bacteria make use of the protein, vitamins, amino acids, and other valuable minerals supplied by the legume. This relationship is not only good for the plants and bacteria but helps restore the soil too.
What Our Clients Are Talking About
“It is a perfect fertilizer for me…”
I have been using Alfalfa Green for 4 years on my strawberries and potted orchard. It is a perfect fertilizer for me because it slowly releases nutrients into the soil every time it rains or I water, so there is no risk of fertilizer burn shocking the plants. An added benefit of Alfalfa Green is the alfalfa pellets soften and become a mulch, which helps control weeds and reduces water requirements. It is very easy to apply by hand or spreader and being that it is certified organic, I can feel confident that what I am applying to my plants is safe, and beneficial to the environment. I highly recommend Alfalfa Green.
Dean Kreutzer – Over the Hill Orchards
“This product was compatible with our equipment and easy to apply.”
We have been test trialing Alfalfa Green Fertilizer as a topdressing material to help combat compaction in our parks. We have observed that the area containing Alfalfa Green is less compact than the control plot. This product was compatible with our equipment and easy to apply. The pellets blended well with the turf grass and were completely broken down within 14 days after applying. So far, we have seen desirable results and we will continue to test this product in the future.
Jenna MacDonald B.Sc.- Landscape Technician, City of Medicine Hat
